CONTRACTOR OF THE MONTH

Southwest Home Services is Contractor of the Month

Contractor of the Month Milton Carlson of Southwest Home Services, is recognized by the Fountain Hills Association of Licensed Contractors.
Milton Carlson of Southwest Home Services has built a strong reputation over the last 42 years. “Reputation is the most important thing,” he says. “Do the job you’re asked to do, and do it fair and properly, and you’ll get a ‘thank you.’”

Southwest Home Services was named Contractor of the Month by the Fountain Hills Association of Licensed Contractors.

Carlson is proud that nearly all his customers are referrals. “Clients refer other people, and clients show my work to other people.” He notes, “a lot of referrals come from Ace Hardware, and they don’t recommend just anyone.”

“Our licenses give us liberty to do just about everything,” Carlson said. He is licensed for both residential and commercial repairs and remodeling. “We subcontract the electrical and plumbing, but we do just about everything else.” His brochure lists over 40 services his company provides, including certified mold inspector.

“We bid a price and meet that price,” he said proudly. “Sometimes in repairs you don’t know what you’ll run into, but for new construction we set a price and stick to it.”

One show project is a roof over a client’s patio. “We used real 1x6 tongue-and-groove planks on the ceiling and added beautiful lighting. The client wanted first class, and she was really satisfied with it!”

He repairs lots of damaged roofs. “We’ve done three roofs in the last two months,” said Carlson. He uses synthetic underlayment materials rather than the tar paper used in older homes. ”Synthetics last ten times longer, and are warranted for 30-years.”

Carlson works with composite deck materials, as well as wood. “We recently replaced a wooden deck with one made of composites near Fountain Park. The original deck had termites, so we replaced the columns and all.”

Carlson and his wife of 24 years, Kelly, a licensed family therapist, moved to Fountain Hills in 1994. They were originally from Manhattan Beach, California. “I saw an article that named Fountain Hills one of the 50 best places to live, so we ended up here,” he said.

The Fountain Hills Association of Licensed Contractors is a not-for-profit trade association promoting better contracting practices. Association officers are: Al Donaldson of Double D Construction, president; Roger Rambo of Rambo & Son Landscaping, vice president; Marc Williams of Bobcat Wizards, immediate past president; Alice Blackerby of Fountain Hills Design Center, secretary-treasurer.
